Sexual Abstinence

There exists a stereotyped view that sexual abstinence has a favourable effect on a person’s health. Really, a lot of long-livers can be found among the monks who abstain from sexual life. But is it anyhow connected with sexual abstinence? Or vice versa, a long-term sexual abstinence is harmful for the health? Let us try to sort everything out. Sexual abstinence occurs everywhere in our mundane life, it can be not principle but forced, for example a quarrel with a spouse, military service, the absence of a beloved person in life, etc. Psychotherapists and sexologists claim that sexual abstinence is dangerous for one’s health, and most frequently it is the woman who suffers from it. It is connected with the fact that women more often willingly refuse having sexual relationship if they do not have a permanent sexual partner.

Sex and Sexuality after 60

“Among all the mundane pleasures a man values sexual relations most, since they are still missing in paradise” (Mark Twain). All ages bow to love, as the saying goes. However, a tumultuous sexual life almost always is associated with the young and active. What age is appropriate to refuse sex then, if it is appropriate at all? New England Journal of Medicine has published a report about one research conducted with the participation of three thousand Americans aged between 57 and 85 years. Its findings show that the key factor of the sexual activity is not the age but the mental attitude of a person. Certainly, sex drive becomes lower with time, very often erectile dysfunction appears too. Still, the sexuality of a person is determined to a great extent by their inner state.

Sex stereotypes of XXI century

Stereotypes are something comfortable. With their help one may not think, as everything is clear. By the way, scientists adore refuting the most common stereotypes. Look yourself what they have discovered recently. One thinks: modern girls have sex more than their mothers. As a matter of fact: modern girls are much less interested in sex than their grandmothers early in life. British scientists attribute this to the fact that there are a lot of single women in the modern world who make work and career a top priority and then sex and family. The turning point in women's mind occurred in the 80's. Since then modern women have to solve problems of career, finances and family at the same time. What is the point about sex?!

Sadism

Sadism can be defined as the derivation of pleasure, including the sexual one, as a result of inflicting physical pain and moral humiliation on others. The term “sadism” was widely introduced by the Austrian psychiatrist R. Krafft-Ebing in his monograph “Psychopathia Sexualis” (1886). The origin of the term “sadism” is connected with the name of the legendary Marquis de Sade, who described similar deviations in his novels. The main concept of his novels runs that, “A person is free to get satisfaction without any restrictions and remorse”. Marquis believed that sexual stimulation should be sought for everywhere, tortures, murders and violence were not an exception, in his opinion. The leading character of his novels is a sexual molester, a hangman, a torturer, a sadist.

Orgasm Control

People have started to study the phenomenon of orgasm not so long ago. And almost immediately it was discovered that an orgasm is not only a very pleasant sensation but also a guarantee of health. At the moment of an orgasm a woman’s body intensively produces testosterone and estrogenes which improve the immune system, and consequently let the woman fall ill less frequently and stay young and attractive longer. Those women who regularly achieve orgasm have 20% lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease, 15% lower risk of breast and cervical cancer, 13% lower risk of a heart attack, and 10 % lower risk of a stroke. And all this is due to the production of such useful hormones as oxytocin and dehydroepiandrosterone. However, the majority of women suffer from certain difficulties achieving orgasm.
